From the people who brought you the many years of a million dreams comes Summer Nightastic Part Deux, or as I have decided to call it Summer Night Cop Out.
We we're all excited last year when Disneyland Resort announced they would be running a summer promotion titled, "Summer Nightastic!" This summer program would give us a whole new side of the Disneyland Resort in California. Pixie Hollow would be pimped out with lights and fountains, Tinkerbelle would hijack the Electric Parade and cover it in pixie dust, Tomorrowland Terrace would be magically transformed into Tomorrowland Terrace Dance Club, a all new magical firework show titled, "Magical" featuring Dumbo the flying elephant, and the headliner an all new 40 foot tall audio animatronics dragon in Fantasmic! This promo went out without a hitch (and a dragon) and some people loved it and some people hated it. It has its flaws but we don't need to get into those now, but I think we can all agree it was a refreshing change to the park, for a normally un-eventful summer season.
So here comes 2010 and what does Disney roll out for the next exciting summer? SUMMER NIGHTASTIC. Again? (This sounds familiar). Oh well let's give them a shot what’s new this year? Disney answers, "all the new stuff of last year!” OK? So the dragon, the pixies, dancing, and the parade. Disney: "Oh! Well actually we are sending off the parade to Florida. Oh Ok. Then what are we getting? "Well, we have come up with a whole new night time spectacular called, World of Color!" That is exciting, hasn't this been coming for like 2 or 3 years though? It's all I hear about when visiting the park. That isn't really exclusive or special to Summer Nightastic, just being in the right place at the right time. Disney: "Well we are also adding 5 characters to Toy Story Mania.”Yeah, but isn't that in celebration of Toy Story 3 which happens to be released this summer, besides that has nothing to do with summer or Nightastic-ness.
Why would they call it Summer Nightastic???? Why not, Summer Of Color? Put a few light gels in the main street lighting kits and do that? You could still package the fireworks and Pixie Hollow with that? Now don't kid me wrong, I love Disney! I do! I hated the "magical" fireworks show, but I was much appreciative of Disney for creating something different. I was I give them credit where credit is do. But it seems to me it would have been better to leave summer alone, rather then call it Summer Nightastic one more time. Ugh.
One final act of desperation... straight from the Disney horse's mouth... one more addition to Summer Nightastic... Aladdin The Musical! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? No additions or changes to the show but listed as part of Summer Nightastic. Check out Disney's site yourself.
